6 steps to craft the ultimate about me page

The ‘about me’ page is usually one of the most critical pages on a website, and one that is often overlooked. A look at your website stats will probably show the about me page is in the top 10 most visited pages. Chances are that anyone looking at your about me page is also interested in what you have to offer, they’re forming an opinion of you and deciding if they want to take it further.

Most about me pages contain a paragraph of two describing the person, but that’s about it. People rarely use the page to promote their brand or encourage engagement. The ultimate about me page should:

  • Prove your expertise in the industry: This will help you to build trust with potential customers. There are several ways you can show you industry credentials.
    • Use testimonials
    • List your qualifications and achievements in the field, what got you to where you are?
    • Give interesting numbers that show your success, like subscribers or user counts.
    • Give some examples of results. It doesn’t need to be a full case study, just a summary of what you have achieved for one or two customers.
  • Show your personality: The longer a visitor stays on your website the more likely they are to return.
    • Use an informal writing style, try to write as you would speak to a potential client or friend.
    • Speak directly to your audience, use I or we, and you and yours.
  • Provide an opportunity to engage with potential customers.
  • Inspire visitors to take action: Treat your about me page as a landing page and place a call to action on it. This could be an email subscription box, download an offer, any call to action that you think fits.

The following infographic from the Wise Startup Blog summaries the 6 main steps to create your ultimate landing page.
