How Hill Trust

How Hill Trust · Four audiences, four ways in
Visit siteProject overview
One place. Four audiences.
How Hill Trust is an education charity on the Norfolk Broads. Its visitors range from school groups on residential trips to adults on specialist courses, families out for the day, and organisers hiring the venue. The brief: one website that serves all of them, and takes admin off a small team.

The challenge
The place sells itself. The audiences don’t.
How Hill is a beautiful setting, and the site never had to work hard to show it. The difficulty was the people using it.
A teacher planning a residential trip, an adult booking a course, a family looking for an event, and an organiser weighing up the venue each arrive with a different question. None of them should have to read through the others’ content to find an answer.
As a charity, the Trust also needed the site to do practical work: bring in course bookings and trip enquiries, make donating simple, and keep the team’s admin down.
Every visitor on the right path from the first click, and less admin for the team behind it.
The approach
Built around who is visiting.
- 01
A way in for each audience.
The site is organised around the people using it rather than the Trust’s internal structure. Young Visitors, Courses and Events, and Venue Hire each have their own section, so visitors land on a path that makes sense for them.
- 02
One calendar for the public programme.
Courses and activities sit in a single events calendar that is easy to browse, and the team can keep it current without coming back to us.
- 03
Support, always a step away.
Donating and getting involved appear where they make sense across the site, rather than on one page, without pressing anyone to give.
- 04
The setting, with modern plumbing.
The design leans into How Hill’s rustic character and its place on the Broads, while the site underneath stays clear, modern, and quick to use.
- 05
Run in-house.
Events, courses, and news are all updated by the Trust’s own team, which is what a small charity needs once the launch is over.
The outcome
Clear paths. Less admin.
Each of the Trust’s audiences has a clear way in. Booking a course, enquiring about a school trip, hiring the venue, and making a donation are all easy to find.
The site carries the character of the place without getting in the way of the person using it, and the team keeps it current themselves.
