Website hosting
What does managed hosting cover?
Every site we host runs behind Cloudflare, which serves your pages quickly to visitors wherever they are and stops attacks, including floods of traffic from bot networks, before they reach your site. Every plan includes:
- Security certificate: An SSL certificate for your domain, renewed automatically.
- Backups: Regular backups, so your site can be restored if anything goes wrong.
- Domain management: If you’d like, we look after your domain, with renewals and fast, secure DNS handled for you.
- Business email: Email on your own domain, set up the way that suits you: a business class inbox from us (charged per inbox), forwarding to an inbox you already have, or the records for Google Workspace or Microsoft 365.
- Updates: The software your site runs on, kept up to date for you.
- Security: A firewall in front of your site that blocks known attacks and malicious bots, and security monitoring behind it.
- Uptime monitoring: Your site is checked around the clock, so we know if it goes offline, and visitors can still see a saved copy of many pages while it’s fixed.
- AI access: You decide which AI tools can read your content, letting in the ones that help people find you and blocking the rest.
Content changes and new pages are not part of hosting. We quote those separately, or bill small jobs by the hour.
Where your site lives
Data, security, and energy
Where is my data stored?
Every website we host is on UK or EU servers, unless you ask otherwise. GDPR and data sovereignty rules cover the data your website or online services collect, such as form messages and orders, not your public content. So a content delivery network can keep copies of your pages worldwide, helping them load quickly. If you have stricter rules, we’ll find a setup that meets them.Is hosting safe from AI attacks?
AI makes it quicker and cheaper for attackers to find weak spots and try them on thousands of websites at once. Most still get in through out-of-date software and guessed passwords. So we keep your software up to date, block bad traffic, back everything up, and keep watch, so any problem is put right quickly. How AI has changed website security. How sustainable is the hosting?
We don’t call our hosting green or sustainable, because nobody can yet measure the carbon footprint of one website, and we won’t make claims we can’t prove. Instead, we choose data centres that use very little extra energy for cooling, and build lighter websites that need less power, on the server and on your visitors’ phones. Why we retired our carbon neutral label.
Testimonials
What clients say
Andrew Bolton
Owner, C & A Quality Services
“Ric was suggested to me by a complete stranger and I have been very pleased with his work. He has always completed his work very much on time and the web site he produced for me I thought was exceptional. The pages exuded vigor and enthusiasm and is bound to keep any potential client 'trapped' in the web pages. He is very cost effective and was always willing to make changes to the web pages without hesitation. I would certainly recommend Ric to anyone out there.”

Kate Watts
Owner, Millview Meadow Glamping
“We have been working with Ric since we first launched our glamping business in 2019. Ric assisted us with setting up our website and incorporating our booking platform onto the website. He did a great job and we have been working with him ever since. He is reliable and very responsive. I can ask him for assistance with something and usually he gets to it within the same day! I would definitely recommend Ric, his work is professional and he has helped us greatly.”

Jacqui Wilmshurst
Charter Psychologist, Jacqui Wilmshurst
“I've had three websites designed by Ric now, and there are multiple reasons I keep going back. His technical skills and knowledge are brilliant, but he brings so much more. He really listens, and takes time to build a clear idea of what I want. He's very patient (and I need that!) with evolving needs and adaptations. He understands audiences and user-experience, and shares insights that complement the design. And, most importantly, I've loved the end product every time.”

Process
Can you move my site without it going offline?
- 01
Audit
A look at where your site lives now, what it depends on, and what needs to come across. - 02
Migrate
Your site copied to the new server and tested end to end on a private address before anything changes publicly. - 03
Switch
The domain moved over at a quiet time, with the old site left running until the new one is confirmed working. - 04
Maintain
Updates, backups, and monitoring handled from then on, with a person to ask when you need help.
Hosting questions
Ask a question
Can’t see what you’re looking for? Send it over and we’ll reply within one working day.
Ask a questionNo. Hosting is paid monthly or annually, and you can cancel at any time. It carries on until the end of the period you've paid for, then stops. We'd rather keep you because the hosting is good than because leaving is hard.
Yes. We can register a new domain in your name, take over managing one you already have, look after the DNS, and handle renewals so a domain never lapses by accident. Domains are registered a year at a time.
Yes. We handle the whole migration: a full backup of your existing site, setting it up and testing it on our infrastructure, then switching it over with as little disruption as possible. We can cancel your old hosting afterwards too, if you'd like.
Yes. Managed WordPress hosting includes automatic daily backups with 30 days of restore points, so if something goes wrong, the site can be rolled back to a recent known-good version. Modern static sites are version-controlled in full, so the site can be rebuilt and redeployed from source at any time. Either way, a bad day is recoverable.
It means the ongoing work of keeping a site healthy is done for you, not just the server space. Our managed hosting covers software updates, security monitoring, daily backups, performance and caching, and a person to ask when something needs doing. Unmanaged hosting gives you the server space and leaves the rest to you.
Yes. If you use Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, or Proton, you buy it from them and we set up the records on your domain, so your email arrives and isn't marked as spam. If you need a simple inbox on your own domain, we can provide one through a business class email service. And if all you need is an address that forwards to an inbox you already have, such as you@yourbusiness.co.uk to your existing Gmail, we can set that up too.
Your site is yours, and it can be hosted anywhere that supports it. But a site is only as good as the hosting under it, and a WordPress site in particular needs regular maintenance to stay fast and safe. BrainWeb hosting exists so the site we built for you is looked after by us. It's a recommendation, not a requirement.
Both hosting types are built for security. WordPress hosting includes multiple firewalls, malware detection, application security patching, full account isolation, and active monitoring. Hosting for custom-coded sites leaves little to attack, with no live database or server software exposed. No hosting can promise a site will never be attacked, but a well-built site on managed hosting is well protected, and we keep monitoring it.
Your website is yours, and so is your domain. If you ever want to move on, we hand over the files, the database, and whatever else is needed, and we'll help with the move to another host.
We work to avoid any visible downtime, and usually achieve it. The site is fully set up and tested on our side before anything switches, and the changeover itself is timed carefully. In practice, visitors shouldn't notice the move happened.
You do, always. When we register or manage a domain on your behalf, it's registered in your ownership, not ours. If you ever want to take direct control of it or move it elsewhere, we'll help you do that.
It depends on the kind of site and how busy it is. A typical small-business WordPress site sits on our standard plan, and busier sites move up to a faster one. The first year is included with every new site we build. Tell us about your site and we'll give you a figure for the years after.
Migration is included with an annual hosting plan. If you'd rather pay for hosting monthly, migration is quoted as a one-off, based on the size and complexity of the site. Either way, you'll have a clear figure before anything begins.
Yes. Every new site includes its first year of managed hosting, matched to how it's built: WordPress hosting for WordPress sites, and hosting for Next.js and Astro sites served from a worldwide network. After the first year, hosting continues on a monthly or annual plan.
We monitor sites around the clock, so we usually know about a problem before you do. Sorting it out is what your hosting plan is for, and if the fault is at our end or the platform's, it's ours to fix. Let us know if you spot something, but often we're already on it.
Yes. We clean and secure hacked sites whether or not we built or host them: removing the malware, finding how the attacker got in, closing that gap, and getting the site off any blocklists. If you're dealing with it now, get in touch and we'll tell you quickly where you stand.
They suit two different kinds of site. WordPress sites need a database and server software running all the time, so their hosting includes the updates and maintenance that keep all that healthy. Next.js and Astro sites are served from a worldwide network and need far less upkeep. How your site is built decides which one it needs, and we'll have told you long before this becomes a question.
Because it covers more. A low-cost hosting deal is usually server space on its own, with the updates and monitoring left to you. Our hosting includes the updates, security, backups, and direct support that keep a site healthy. For most businesses, the time and risk that saves is worth far more than the difference in price.
