Bespoke web design

Bespoke web design

Included in every website design

Everything you need for a website that looks like your business and brings in enquiries, even if you’re starting with nothing but a logo.
  • Custom design: Your site is designed for your business or organisation, using your brand’s colours, fonts, and tone, so it’s recognisably yours.
  • Mobile first: Every page is easy to read and quick to load on a smartphone, and adapts automatically to tablets, laptops, and desktops.
  • A clear next step: Each page starts with what your visitors came to find and the one thing you’d like them to do next, whether that’s booking, buying, finding an answer for themselves, or getting in touch.
  • Words and pictures: If you’re short of either, we can help, from writing or editing the copy to finding the right photos.
  • Search-friendly: Every page has a clear title, headings, and description, so search engines understand it from the day it launches.
  • Your choice of platform: Built in WordPress or custom code, whichever best fits what your site needs to do and how you’d like to look after it.
  • Hosting and upkeep: Your first year of managed hosting is included. We keep your site online, secure, and up to date, with a security certificate, software updates, and regular backups. Two hours of content updates or design tweaks are included too, to use any time in the first 12 months.

Why BrainWeb

With BrainWeb, you also get

  • One person from start to finish

The person who takes your first call designs your site, and is still the person you ring about a change years later, so nothing gets lost between people.
  • A detailed brief before we start

Before any design begins, we write a brief with you covering what your business or organisation needs, who the site is for, and the pages, features, and platform that suit it best. You don’t need to have the answers first.
  • Designed for how people decide

We plan each page using what we know about how people read and make decisions online: what they look at first, what reassures them, and what makes them get in touch. It comes from years of studying how the brain makes decisions. About Richard Wood.
  • No limit on design changes

We don’t cap your design at a set number of rounds. We keep refining it until you’re happy, and plan each round from your feedback so the work stays focused and on schedule.
  • Accessible as standard

Every design meets the basics of WCAG 2.2 AA, which helps you meet your duty under the Equality Act 2010 to make reasonable adjustments for disabled people. We scope fuller compliance work for charities and public-sector clients who need it.
  • Ready to be found

Every site is built with the groundwork that search engines (SEO), AI answers from tools like ChatGPT (AEO and GEO), and local searches (local SEO) rely on: clear structure, accurate business details, and plain answers near the top of each page. Our SEO work takes it further.

Testimonials

What clients say

Reviews left on Google, Facebook, and Yell.
  • Andrew Bolton

    Owner, C & A Quality Services

“Ric was suggested to me by a complete stranger and I have been very pleased with his work. He has always completed his work very much on time and the web site he produced for me I thought was exceptional. The pages exuded vigor and enthusiasm and is bound to keep any potential client 'trapped' in the web pages. He is very cost effective and was always willing to make changes to the web pages without hesitation. I would certainly recommend Ric to anyone out there.”

  • Kate Watts

    Owner, Millview Meadow Glamping

“We have been working with Ric since we first launched our glamping business in 2019. Ric assisted us with setting up our website and incorporating our booking platform onto the website. He did a great job and we have been working with him ever since. He is reliable and very responsive. I can ask him for assistance with something and usually he gets to it within the same day! I would definitely recommend Ric, his work is professional and he has helped us greatly.”

  • Jacqui Wilmshurst

    Charter Psychologist, Jacqui Wilmshurst

“I've had three websites designed by Ric now, and there are multiple reasons I keep going back. His technical skills and knowledge are brilliant, but he brings so much more. He really listens, and takes time to build a clear idea of what I want. He's very patient (and I need that!) with evolving needs and adaptations. He understands audiences and user-experience, and shares insights that complement the design. And, most importantly, I've loved the end product every time.”

Projects

Recent work

Recent web design for businesses and charities, most of them in Norfolk.

Process

How long does the design take?

Designs usually take one to two weeks once work starts, depending on the size and complexity of the project. The steps are the same for every site, and we adapt them to the way yours will be built.

WordPress web design: the design and build often happen together. We design directly in Divi on a private preview site, so what you approve is the working site.

Custom-coded web design: we design every page first in Figma, a design tool, so you can see and comment on the full design before any code is written. How we build them.

Web design questions

Ask a question

Can’t see what you’re looking for? Send it over and we’ll reply within one working day.

Ask a question

Yes. We can deliver the design on its own: page designs and the assets another developer would need to build it. Most people ask us to build it too, so the design and build are planned together, but a design on its own is available if you already have a developer.

Not necessarily, but the more we know about what you want to say, the better the design serves it. If you have words ready, send them with your logo and photos. If not, we can help you write them as part of the project. Even a rough outline of what each page should cover is enough to start.

Where the project needs them. The brand style leans on real photography rather than illustration, but custom icons, hand-drawn diagrams, or editorial illustrations suit some projects. We'll talk through whether it's right for yours and quote any custom illustration as part of the project, or recommend an illustrator we trust if the work needs a specialist.

No. Every BrainWeb design is custom. On WordPress builds we use a custom Divi child theme built specifically for your design, not a purchased Divi theme that thousands of others run. Custom-coded builds (Astro or Next.js) have no theme system at all; the design is the design.

Yes. Most of our clients are in Norfolk and East Anglia, and we work with businesses right across the UK. If you're nearby, we'll usually come to you; otherwise we meet by video call.

We'll work it out with you in the first conversation. If you'd like to edit visually and add pages and features yourself, WordPress is usually the right choice. If speed, security, and less upkeep matter more, a custom-coded site is the better fit. For a new business or a single offer, a one-page site may be all you need. We'll explain the trade-offs, and tell you if an option doesn't suit your project.

One concept for the homepage and one key internal page to start with. Several competing concepts up front would waste your time and ours. We'd rather put the time into one direction we believe in than spread it across two or three. If the direction isn't right, we'll talk about what's not working and rework it.

There's no set number. We keep refining the design until you're happy with it, and plan each round from your feedback so the work stays focused and on schedule.

It depends on the size of the site and how it will be built. The design is priced together with the build, so you get one figure for the whole project rather than a separate design fee. Tell us what the site needs to do and you'll have a fixed written quote before any work begins.

Yes, by default. If you've got an established brand (logo, colours, typography, voice), we'll design the site to feel like a natural extension of it. If you want us to refresh or rework part of the brand for the web, we'll talk it through and quote the extra work separately. We won't quietly redesign your brand under cover of redesigning your website.

Yes. The design decides the things search engines care about most: the structure of each page, its headings, what comes first, how images are handled, and how quickly it loads. Our SEO work builds on that, but the foundations are set in the design.

Every design meets the basics of WCAG 2.2 AA as standard: colour contrast, focus states, reading order, type sizes, and keyboard navigation. It's part of the design, not added later. If you need fuller compliance work, as some charities and public bodies do, we'll scope it as part of the project.

Bring what you've got. If you've got a logo, brand colours, and a photo library, we'll work to that. If you've got a logo and not much else, we can build the rest. If you've got nothing yet, we can help with photography (commissioned or sourced) and basic brand setup. Real photos of your actual business will almost always outperform stock, so it's worth investing there if you can.

A site designed from scratch for your business, not adapted from a theme. The structure, typography, photography, and small interactions are all chosen for you specifically. We don't start with a generic template and customise it; we start with a blank page and design from there. A bespoke design can be quiet, restrained, or classical; it doesn't have to be flashy. The point is that every decision is deliberate, made for you, and not running on thousands of other sites.

Once the brief is agreed, you send us your logo, words, photos, and anything else we'll need. We design your home page and one key inner page first, refine them with you until you're happy, and then design the rest. Designs usually take one to two weeks once work starts. For WordPress sites we often design directly on a private preview site, so the design and build happen together.

Tell us straight. The first look is there so you can react early, before anything is built. We don't take design feedback personally; the goal is the right direction for your business, not defending the first version. The earlier you tell us what isn't working, the better the next round will be.

We can do it, with judgement. Animation used sparingly makes a site feel considered; used heavily, it ages fast and slows the site down. We usually design a few well-placed moments rather than animation everywhere. If you need real interactivity, such as a calculator, a product configurator, or a data visualisation, we'll talk through whether a custom-coded build is the right fit.

It depends on how the site is built. WordPress with Divi lets you change layouts and design yourself after handover. A custom-coded site with Payload gives you control of the content: you can change words, swap images, and add pages, while the layout stays as designed. We'll help you choose the level of control that suits you before the build starts.

Most of the time it's Ric, who also takes the first call, writes the quote, and builds the site. Some projects involve working alongside other designers, and where a project needs a specialist, such as an illustrator or a copywriter, we bring them in and tell you who from the start.

Yes. Every site we design is built mobile-first and tested across breakpoints. More than half of most websites' visitors arrive on a phone, so mobile isn't an afterthought; it's the starting point.

Yes. Every site is designed from scratch around the business behind it, so two BrainWeb sites should look as different from each other as two well-designed sites by any small studio. There's a thread of editorial sensibility that runs through our work (typography doing the visual work, generous whitespace, real photography, restrained colour), but the visual language, palette, and tone of each site comes from the client's brand and audience, not from a house style we paste onto everything.

Yes. Performance is part of the design, not just the build. Image sizes, font choices, and interaction decisions are made with real-world connections in mind, including the patchier mobile signal across rural Norfolk and elsewhere. On modern JS builds especially, sites stay fast even on slow networks.

AI tools can lay out a passable page in minutes, and we use them for some of the groundwork. They can't decide what your customers need to see first, or make your site look like yours rather than like everyone else's. That judgement is the part you're paying for. What AI design tools do well, and where they fall short

We don't offer logo design as a separate service, but if you're starting without a logo, we can put together a simple wordmark as part of your website design. It's a clean starting point rather than a full brand identity.

Yes. We design and build WordPress sites with Divi, often designing directly on a private preview site so what you approve is the working site. We also design custom-coded sites, and help you choose the right platform for yours.
