Project overview

A season in rhyme. A page to match.

Jonathan Bradshaw, writing as The Brighton Bard, told Brighton & Hove Albion’s 2022/23 season in verse: all 46 matches in more than 750 rhymes, with 275 official colour photographs. The brief: a single page that promotes the book and sends readers to buy it.

The challenge

A book for fans. A page for buyers.

Wins, Grins & Limbs follows the club’s historic season, which ended in a record sixth-place finish and a first qualification for European football. Its readers are fans, and the site had to feel like the book rather than a shop listing.

It also had to do a simple job well: tell a fan what the book is, and get them to the club shop to buy it. £5 from every sale goes to the BHAFC Foundation, which was worth saying plainly.

Capture the spirit of the book, then get the reader to the shop.

The approach

One page, drawn from the book.

  1. 01

    A single page.

Everything a fan needs, from what the book is to where to buy it, on one page with nothing to distract from it.

  2. 02

    Graphics from the book’s themes.

We designed original graphics drawn from the book’s themes, so the page tells the season’s story visually as well as in words.

  3. 03

A straight line to the shop.

The page ends with a link to the club shop, where the book is sold.

  4. 04

    Built on WordPress.

Simple to update when anything changes.

The outcome

The book, on one page.

The Brighton Bard has a page that tells fans what the book is, shows it in its own visual style, and takes them to the club shop to buy it.

Jonathan is a long-standing client; we have also built the Meetology websites for him.
